Chaun and I watched the forecast literally everyday waiting for the sun behind the clouds icon to appear. It went from just cloudy to lightning bolt to full on RAIN! Scattered Showers District Columbia! I was so nervous. I immediately started driving around DC for places with a covered porch! Yes...like a mad woman on Memorial Weekend with extra traffic.
Jae and Rod's Downtown Portsmouth engagement session was my final shoot for the fall season (or is it winter). And they couldn't have been more perfect. They gave up a day of shopping some of the best deals to meet me at The Renaissance Hotel in Portsmouth, VA. It was a little cold and they never even mentioned it. The light was beautiful and the location was perfect. This was where they had their first date. Nothing fancy...just two people getting to know each other on the side of the Portside Pier. They were extremely photogenic. There isn't one fake laugh in any of the portraits. This was easy and they KILLED'T IT! (Yes, I make up words sometimes)
This blog is way overdue! And super different! The bride, Ammee, is my best friend! One of the oldest friendships I have beside my sisters. We meet in fifth grade and have been together since! So you already know this wedding was much anticipated. Ammee was preparing to enter law school when Khaleef proposed. And then they moved to North Caroline…then Georgia…and then Michigan..and then back to Georgia. She was so focused on finishing law school that she didn't have time to plan such a gorgeous wedding. And then preparing for the bar..whew. But nonetheless a few years later she got her perfect wedding day. I was beyond thrilled when she finally set a date and asked me for a little help. She planned this whole wedding in less than 9 months y’all!
Keiranni and Dwayne’s wedding at Noah’s Event Venue was hands down...drop dead…can’t believe your eyes..gorgeous! I was seriously looking forward to this wedding since Thanksgiving of last year when I first met Keiranni and Melanie. And we had so much fun. Everything she envisioned for her wedding day was absolutely stunning and very well executed by Sandra of Essence Weddings Flowers. When Keiranni told me she was having her wedding at Noah’s Event Venue I was ecstatic. I saw gorgeous weddings online at this very same wedding venue and had no idea they were building on in Hampton Roads. I think they had just broke ground when they booked the venue so its still spanking new.
I still get nervous the morning before the wedding. Like its my own wedding! I still get butterflies. There is so much expectations set that we as wedding photographers are faced with. Not to mention the super long wedding shot list branded into the back of our minds. But this wedding was different. I woke up and was fine! Like I didn't even get that nervous gut feeling that I usually feel as I riding to the venue. I headed to Newport News to capture Brandon and Kiara's wedding day with worship music blasting (its a ritual to keep me calm).
The weather leading up to Keiranni and Dwayne’s Downtown Norfolk engagement session was near perfect! Im talking high 60s. Weather that MAKES you WANT to go outside and soak up some sun. Well that wasn't the case for last Saturday. I know Virginia weather is bipolar but come on. I got a notification about a wether advisory the night before about FREEZING VEGETATION!! What In The World!
JoAnne and Bobby's wedding at The Williamsburg Community Building this past weekend was simply amazing. I had been looking forward to their wedding day for months now. You see, last year JoAnne and Bobby were married last year but didn't have the chance to celebrate with their family and friends due to graduations and relocations. But this celebration was like no other and both families anxiously waited as the day grew closer.
I have a bazillion alarms on my phone (yeah, I'm that girl). One of them goes off every morning at 4:22 am. I usually snooze it until the next alarm goes off. It's my workout alarm. But guess what, I haven't stepped in the gym in almost two years!
I watched the forecast every day leading up to Saturday. All I saw were grey cloud emojis and rain. Not one sunny smiley face in sight! This weekend it was going to rain and be grey. But I didnt let that stop me. I was determined to FINALLY meet Kiara and Brandon. We had been chatting since December and made a date to meet at the National Harbor for their engagment session. They couldn’t have been sweeter!! I love meeting couples for the first time and just knowing instantly that we were meant to work with one another. They were so trusting and yet so excited. And they loved to have fun! I could see the joy in Kiara's eyes. Its almost a twinkle when she looks at Brandon.
